What do you do after grandfather turns out to be fake comic book mogul & lied about knowing Robert Ripley Jr?

My granddad told us he was a big comic book mogul and owned CHARLTON COMICS. I contacted owners and they never heard of him. he did live int he area of Derby CT, where Charlton was, but the owners swear they never heard of him. Why did he lie to us? And we used to get all the comics in the summer from Charlton so maybe he subscribed highly and considered himself their #1 customer and had dellusions of grandiure! He also said he strapped a torpedo on his back in WWI and jumped in ocean to save his ship, when i think he lied about that too. Why? He also said he knew Robert Ripley JR and was in his book on this feat of the torpedo. What do you think?
