How do you get medical tape residue off your skin?

I had an overnight heart monitor on me for 24 hours. Today I took it off but have major tape residue all over my chest and across under my breasts. My boyfriend said rubbing alcohol but it burned and reddened me. A basic shower/washcloth/soap didn't work either. Does anyone have a reasonable and attainable answer on this one?
